10 Benefits and Tips for Digital Transformation using Azure and Microsoft 365-Microsoft Tech Summit

Bijgewerkt op: 10 aug. 2018

The goal of this summit was to give insights on and teach IT professionals and developers how to build cloud skills with the latest in Azure and Microsoft 365. We are moving and in a fast pace towards a digitalized world, where information is easily available online which can be consulted anytime by users, employees, clients, partners, customers etc. It is a fact that everything is being digitalized.

Microsoft together with partners like Citrix Systems, AvePoint, CheckPoint, CloudCheckr have enlightened us during this technical learning event on the tools available for cloud services, innovative apps, and optimized solutions. Though, at the event it was striking that there was a lack of women both onstage as (keynote) speakers (only one female keynote speaker namely Lori Wright ‘General Manager of Microsoft Teams and Skype Product Marketing’ and few female sessions’ speakers) and offstage as participants. Microsoft could work on that to include more women and diversity into their community.

Luckily, they did address that by introducing for the first time ‘Diversity and Tech panel’ at the Microsoft Tech Summit 2018 in Amsterdam with panel moderator Maarten Goet (Microsoft MVP and RD) and panelists Martina Grom (Microsoft Regional Director), Lisanne Brons (Microsoft Technical Sales Manager), and Astrid Hackenberg (Microsoft Commercial Software Engineering Manager). That is a step to the right direction to promote diversity and inclusivity. This panel is organized by Shona Chee, Microsoft Communications Manager.

The big question concerning digital transformation is: How can companies benefit from moving into the Cloud? 10 benefits:

1. Information can easily be stored and readily available to employees and stakeholders.

2. Employees can easily share information with each other even when not on the same continent: through chats, emails, file sharing.

3. Information flow, processing documents and files can be done faster. So the amount of paperwork and time are reduced.

4. Access to information and files can be granted to authorized users only that are selected. So companies can decide which information is available to whom and when.

5. Information and data are secured and protected to prevent cyber-attacks, hacking and misuse.

6. Allows workers to have a better overview of all the information as they can browse in the system through the folders looking for a particular file.

7. Behavioral analytics of individuals and of teams or company itself can be performed to improve efficiency and productivity that are beneficial to the company as a whole.

8. Modern workplace allows having remote homeworkers, which reduces costs for renting or purchasing office buildings and other related costs.

9. Having online meetings reduce costs for arranging physical meetings with attendees coming from different offices and/or countries.

10. Allows easy and speedy networking with clients, partners, customers and amongst employees too.

The next question is: What are the recommendable tools to smooth the digital transformation? The Microsoft’s cloud platform can help with supporting the above and here is how, 10 tips:

1. Azure SQL Database: for building cloud database and applications to store and manage data, the ‘Azure SQL Database’ which is the world’s first intelligent cloud database service, can be implemented to help you innovate.

2. Exchange Online and Outlook: building networks for digital internal and external business communications.

3. Microsoft Office 365 (ProPlus) and SharePoint/OneDrive: useful for data migration to help Office deployment and management to become easier. As data is stored in the cloud, employees can access, save and share their work online via any device in any part of the world at any time at work, at home or on the go, provided that they have access.

4. Azure including Microsoft Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery: tool to design, build and manage secure applications in the cloud. Also, using containers will help to improve your development workflow and bring your current application platform to the cloud. Azure makes it easy to take advantage of containers in order to smooth your application journey to the cloud. Microsoft Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery allow protecting and recovering data and applications when running your business in the cloud, while reducing costs and limiting downtime. Azure Active Directory helps to secure and manage who has access to your corporate resources and files.

5. Microsoft 365: offers products that comply to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law that imposes new rules and requirements on businesses and government agencies that offer goods and services to people (in the EU), and on those that collect and analyze data.

6. Microsoft Azure Security Center: protects Microsoft Azure resources, provides instant insight into security of Azure deployments, helps identifying vulnerable VM and network configurations, and detects active threats.

7. MyAnalytics and Workplace Analytics from Microsoft 365: the first one provides personal analytics and intelligent coaching to encourage employees in developing healthy work habits and at the same time it helps companies drive innovation and engagement from its employees. With Workplace Analytics you get insights enabling you to inform strategic initiatives, diagnose productivity issues, and measure the impact of transformation programs.

8. Windows Analytics: tool that provides solutions that help companies monitor, measure and proactively improve their experience with Windows for their business.

9. Windows 10 Deployment with Windows AutoPilot: Windows 10, the latest update for Windows, has new features including the introduction of the new modern deployment capabilities, called Windows AutoPilot. That leverages the cloud to automate the configuration of new PCs without the assistance of any IT touching the computer physically to establish for example VPN connection and be connected with your digital workplace. Very useful when employing especially new remote homeworkers into your digital workplace.

10. Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business: enables intelligent communications (online calling and videoconferences) for meetings and networking. Microsoft Teams is replacing the Skype for Business, becoming the primary client for intelligent communications in Office 365, transforming the calling and meeting experiences for companies. Microsoft Teams is the hub for teamwork in Office 365, which brings employees, conversations, files and apps together in one place, which includes intelligent communications capabilities too.
